Hilton Head Island Engagement Session - Justus + Angelica

Justus + Angelica

"We met freshman year of college (2012) at GCSU, on a Tuesday night at BCM. Angelica was on the worship team and Justus thought she was really cute… and she thought he was really cute too ;).

A few days later, Justus was sitting in Blackbird Coffee in downtown Milledgeville (soon to become their favorite date spot). Angelica walked in and said “hello” then told Justus to come sit with her if he got “bored.”

Well, as you can imagine, Justus got “bored” very quickly, and went to sit with this beautiful woman.

They talked about themselves, family, and their common faith for over two hours. Justus was so enthralled by her love for Jesus and her love for her family that his fascination only increased. Angelica was surprised how easy it was to talk to him and how much they had in common.

After spending some time together, Justus knew he couldn’t let her pass him by…

He first asked her out one night after BCM. He managed to get a moment alone with her and and asked her to coffee the following morning, where she replied, “Uhm… I have class at 8:00 and 7:00 is too early. Can I let you know?”

“Great,” thought Justus, “I don’t have a chance.”

Ready to embrace rejection, Justus was surprised to get a text message saying that she would be there at 7:00.

Bright and early, he bought both of them green tea and explained to Angelica the way that he felt about her, and asked her if she would be willing to start “hanging out” together with the intention of moving toward a dating relationship. Once again, she pulled out the “Can I think about it?” card, to which Justus agreed.

A week later, after many sleepless nights, Justus couldn’t stand the waiting. He asked Angelica if they could discuss their conversation from the week before. He was determined that she would say “no,” but he had to hear it directly from her so that he could move on with his life.

Surprisingly, she said “yes… under one condition: we go reallllly slow.”

Justus thought he wanted “slow” too, so he agreed!

Blackbird, tennis courts, Taco Bell, blindfolds, and an extremely memorable Valentine’s date later, Justus knew there was something special about this girl and that he wouldn’t be content without her in his life.

March 16, 2013, after a lot of second-guessing, awkward evenings, and Waffle House with his best friend, Jacob, Justus finally mustered the courage to ask Angelica to be his girlfriend. She agreed!

Fast-forward two years, Justus finally had the nerve to ask Angelica to be his wife (it should be pretty obvious at this point that she said “yes”) and the rest, as you can say, is history."

Such a Justus look, I had to...;)

Some of you may not know, this is my little brother! One of the SIX bothers I have been blessed with! LOVE YOU JUSTUS & ANG! -Ashah

10 Years of Weddings

10 Years of Weddings

There have been so many emotions going through my head the last couple of days. I may or may not feel like crying as I type this. Today marks 10 years since I attended/photographed a wedding with my old boss Joe DeGrandis & his assistant Shelly Watson. That is a really big deal to me. I feel so overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude to the Lord for allowing this, gratitude to the people who have believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself. Here is a little bit of my journey through the years...

I was a weirdo 19 year old girl working at the photo lab at Wal-Mart with a dream of becoming a wedding photographer. I had decided that was what I wanted to do when I was 16 years old.

ashahphotography_4608 I ended up meeting Joe DeGrandis (Milledgeville’s finest photographer) when he was picking up photos at Wal-Mart. He asked me to go to a wedding with him and his assistant Shelly. He said he wouldn’t pay me for the first wedding just so he could see what I could do. I had NO clue what I was doing so I just watched them, asked questions and attempted to take some photos with my Nikon D70 & pop up flash. After the wedding Joe used one of my images on his blog. That really encouraged me & I've been hooked ever since. Haha! Joe continued to train me and then hired Shelly & I out together to photograph weddings on our own. We got a LOT of experience though that. It was pretty hilarious because brides & grooms would freak out a little bit when we showed up at weddings because we looked even younger than we were.

Left - Me and Joe in 2007 & Right - 2014 - Yep! We still hang out. He's the best!

I actually saved the program from that first wedding.

A little over a year later (March 25, 2006) I photographed my first wedding on my own for a friend. I wasn't actually supposed to but the person that was helping me got sick at the last minute. I freaked out and told Elizabeth(the bride). She actually gave me a pep talk & said she knew I could do it. I was terrified but it all worked out. Thanks for that Elizabeth!!!

About a year later (2007) I started my own business, Ashah Photography. I went full time in 2010 and have enjoyed it so much. I've had the opportunity to photograph weddings all over the United States & meet tons of awesome couples.
I am so grateful. First and foremost I thank my Savior. Without His grace & mercy, none of this would have happened. I've had so much fun. I also want to thank all of you who have believed, encouraged & taught me over the years.
Thanks for reading a little bit of my story.
To God be the glory,

Common Bond

Common Bond

My husband and his family all have this common bond, motorcycles. They have all had a motorcycle at some point in their life (even their mother, Doreen). This Christmas holiday, while Christopher (the oldest brother) was back from deployment, I decided to capture what I thought would portray this bond. The last image is what I had in my head for a while. It came out better than I imagined.

The bikes below (left to right) are as follows: 2007 Honda CBR 600, 2002 Suzuki Volusia 800, 2001 Suzuki Volusia 800 & 2008 Harley Davidson Sportster 883
